Shutdown promise

Email services sometimes disappear. When that happens, people lose addresses they've used for years. Freehold Mail is built so that can't happen to you, and this is our promise for the day we stop.

90 days' notice

If we ever decide to stop running Freehold Mail, or to hand it over to someone else, we will tell every account holder by email at least 90 days before anything changes, and post it on our website and status page.

During those 90 days

  • Everything keeps working. Receiving, sending, reading, forwarding, relaying, all of it.
  • Exports keep working. You can download a complete copy of your data in standard formats (mbox or Maildir, vCard, Sieve) as often as you like.
  • Your own domains are already yours. Change your domain's MX records to your new provider and your mail moves. We'll show you exactly which records to change.
  • Your freeholdmail.com address can be set to forward to your new address until the service closes, so you have 90 days to tell everyone your new address.
  • We'll help. We'll publish step-by-step guides for moving to other providers.

If Freehold Mail is handed over

If someone else takes over the service, they have to keep this promise, the privacy policy's commitments, and the 90-day notice. You can always leave before the handover, and your data will not be transferred if you leave before that date.

After closing

After the 90 days, your data is deleted the same way as when you leave: from the live servers immediately, from backups within 5 weeks.
